We take it for granted, that new paint smell. It smells fresh and clean — the end of a decorating project and the start of a fresh new look for your home. But that smell is toxic. It's a sign of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including acetone, xylene, toluene, benzene and formaldehyde. It's toxic and it's fully avoidable.

What are VOCs and what
harm can they cause?
Volatile organic compounds are gases released from paint, from a range of commonly used toxic chemicals in interior house paint. These chemicals include toluene, xylene, ethyl acetate, formaldehyde, methylene chloride and glycol. While the bulk of the harm is caused while the paint dries, the first few weeks afterwards, and when the paint is removed or sanded back, we just don't know the long term effects.
The VOCs in fresh paint can cause eye irritation, an itchy throat, dizziness, headaches, fatigue and problems breathing. For some people, the problems can persist for weeks after application. For people exposed to VOCs regularly, like painters, there is evidence to suggest serious long-term health problems with the liver, kidneys and nervous system.

Not only are our paints eco-friendly, but our whole process of prepping your home is too. If the old paint needs to be removed, we use a vacuum sander so that the paint particles end up safely disposed of, not in your environment.

Specialty Undercoat or Pigmented Sealer
With fantastic adhesion to almost any substrate, this undercoat ensures your top coat looks amazing. Uses natural raw ingredients to create this adaptive sealer, primer and undercoat. Works on timber (not cedar), vinyl wallpaper, painted surfaces, glass, some plastics and well-primed metal surfaces.
Wall, Ceiling & Feature Paint
Using plant oils, earth clay and tree resins, this paint looks fantastic — and you know there are no harmful VOCs. It's highly durable, washable, and comes in any shade you want, even matching standard commercial paints. Whether you want light or dark colours, there's a high quality option for you.
Enamel Paint
For wet areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, we recommend ultra low VOCs, solvent free enamel paint. It uses plant oils and resins to make a highly durable, washable, water-repellent finish. Available in a range of light colours in a low sheen as well as gloss or semi-gloss finish. Its natural elasticity makes it ideal for timber.
Gib Primer / Sealer
For a new build or rebuild, this primer and sealer sets your gib-board up for the perfect finish with the wall and ceiling paint. Using natural oils, resins and other natural ingredients, this product seals the gib and ensures your project will be a success.
